I started OffBeatScholar after I left a traditional public school setting to explore different ways young people learn at various developmental stages of their life. I felt that conventional teaching narrowly focuses on managing large numbers of children. It is impossible to get to know each student as a single, unique entity. Understanding what motivates an individual child is something that inspires me as a teacher and as a human being. I cannot acquire this degree of understanding in a conventional learning medium.
Recently I have embarked on a different path. This time I wanted to teach and guide young people to discover their own voice and personal sense of expression.
As an extension to developing an innovative learning environment, I envision establishing an online Ezine of student work reflecting their research, opinions, feature stories, narratives and essays. It is my hope that genuine scholarship will present a generation that will launch onto great journeys and marvelous adventures.
